ACOs Improve Care Delivery in Medicare, Resulting in Billions of Dollars In Savings
Statement from Emily Brower, president and chief executive officer of the National Association of ACOs on the 2024 Shared Savings Program Results
WASHINGTON (August 28, 2025) – The National Association of ACOs applauds the 476 accountable care organizations (ACOs) that saved Medicare more than $6.5 billion 2024 through improved delivery of care to 10.3 million seniors. The 2024 financial and quality results of the Medicare Shared Savings Program demonstrate a continued year-over-year savings that ACOs are bringing back to Medicare, reporting the highest rate of shared savings since the program started.
The results show ongoing measurable success in improving high-quality, coordinated care that addresses prevention, chronic illness and the root causes of disease. This progress is noted in seniors’ improved health, including many with better blood pressure control (79.49% in 2024 vs. 77.8% in 2023). Marked improvements were also noted in better diabetes management and more frequent depression screening paired with actionable follow-up plans.
NAACOS and its members are excited to partner with CMS to build on the success of ACOs in making and keeping seniors healthy by advancing the long-term sustainability of value-based care models. Together, we can continue to support health care innovation and transformation by creating long-term financial stability, developing capitation approaches, reducing provider burden, and making accountable care available to more seniors on Medicare.
