Statement on New Payment Models and Goals to Move to Value-Based Care

The CMS Innovation Center today release details and applications for two new payment models, Primary Care First and Kidney Care Choices. NAACOS is pleased to see CMS move forward with implementing new models focused on value. NAACOS strongly supports CMS allowing Shared Savings Program practices the option to participate in Primary Care First. This allows ACOs to further engage primary care providers, which is a bedrock of successful population health management. The Innovation Center’s work will help us move to a health system that emphasizes value-based care. NAACOS looks forward to seeing additional details on the Direct Contracting Model, which CMS announced will follow shortly.
These announcements were made at the Health Care Payment Learning & Action Network (LAN) Summit today in Washington, D.C. NAACOS strongly supports the LAN for its work to advance efforts tying more healthcare payments to quality and value. We appreciate the LAN emphasizing the need for a major, industry-wide shift to value and recognizing key focus areas such as increasing data transparency and interoperability, addressing social determinants of health, and focusing on appropriate person-centered care.
