Assessing Specialty Care Performance:

NAACOS/IAC Episode Spending Report

NAACOS and the Institute for Accountable Care (IAC) are offering complimentary episode spending reports to member ACOs, updated with 2022 Medicare data.

Episodes-of-care data are an invaluable tool to assess specialist performance and can help ACOs identify the right partners and clinical improvement opportunities.

Our reports are based on 2022 Medicare spending for each ACO’s attributed beneficiaries, grouped into 34 clinical episodes as defined by BPCI Advanced. The complimentary reports provide aggregate results for each 90-day episode by type of service, along with a state-level comparison group.

These clinical episode spending reports can be used regardless of participation in the BPCI-A program and will show your ACO’s:

  • Case volume and average 90-day spending by episode group for your ACO’s attributed beneficiaries in 2022, compared to your state averages
  • Per-episode spending by site of service, including post-acute care utilization and hospital readmissions.
  • The relative ‘efficiency’ of the episodic care your beneficiaries received as indicated by the observed-to-expected spending ratio.

For NAACOS members that were a registered MSSP ACO or Direct Contracting Entity (DCE)  in 2022, access your free report here.

You can also view instructions and a webinar recording on how to use your report for assessing specialty care performance.

Other ACO members should contact [email protected] for more information on obtaining a report. Provider-level episode spending detail and other analytic services can be performed under a separate agreement with the Institute for Accountable Care.
